Player Ratings: Juventus 1-2 Catania

JUVENTUS

Manninger- 6.0: Safe on crosses, but beaten from the spot and on a late counter. Little fault can lie with the Austrian, however.

Caceres- 6.0
: Provided plenty of support going forward, perhaps a bit too eager in the early stages as he left space at the back. Much better assisting the attack than doing his defensive duties.

Cannavaro- 6.0: The veteran did well on most occasions, cutting out a number of counter attacks in the second-half. Also provided an aerial threat.

Legrottaglie- 6.0
: The former Bologna man made one great last ditch tackle on Morimoto, but otherwise was a non-factor in the match.

Grosso- 5.0: Made some nice overlapping runs, but failed to provide a great cross or finish from some promising positions.

Felipe Melo- 3.5
: The Brazilian's poor season continues, as he misplaced several passes and was replaced after just 30 minutes by coach Ciro Ferrara.

Tiago- 5.0
: Gave away a penalty with a shirt tug in the first-half that put his side on the backfoot.

Marchisio- 5.0
: The Italian international started off well, but significantly faded as the match went on.

Diego- 7.0: Missed a glorious one-timer from the edge of the area, but gave Salihamidzic a fantastic chipped assist on the goal. The fans will want more of the same from Diego after this good performance.

Amauri- 5.5: The effort is there, but the execution is not. The player's drought goes on after he missed a number of chances, including a volley after being set up by Trezeguet.

Trezeguet- 5.5
: Anonymous for large portions of the match, although he did very well in the area to play in Amauri and the Brazilian should have scored. The Frenchman showed great courage to continue after a heavy blow, but failed to score a glorious chance late on.

Substitutes

Salihamadzic- 6.5: Scored a goal after beating the offside trap and provided more quality in the midfield after coming off the bench.

Giovinco- 6.5: His defence splitting pass should have been converted by Trezeguet.

Del Piero- 5.5: Showed some neat touches, but did not maintain possession well enough to cause any real threat to the Catania defence.

CATANIA

Andujar- 7.0
: Made two crucial saves in the second-half on Amauri and Diego.

Alvarez- 6.0: At times he struggled with Grosso, but made a great clearance to deny Amauri in the first-half.

Silvestre- 6.5: A competent showing at centre-back that should see him make further appearances in the starting XI.

Spolli- 7.5: A great first-half, where nothing got by him. The South American also earned a penalty and was imperious in the air.

Capuano- 5.0: The Bianconeri often made progress down his flank of the pitch and he was at fault for a few niggling fouls and give-aways.

Biagianti- 6.5
: Did plenty of running in midfield to make life tough for Tiago and Marchisio.

Carboni- 7.0: A tough performance from the player, who recovered the ball on plenty of occasions for the Sicilians and was a midfield general throughout the night. A key cog in the centre of the pitch.

Ledesma- 5.0: In and out of the match, he was substituted out at half-time.

Martinez- 7.0: Showed excellent composure to covert from the spot (twice, as the penalty had to be retaken) to open the scoring for his side.

Morimoto- 5.5
: An active presence up front. However, he was rarely successful in his endeavours, often dispossessed by Cannavaro and Legrottaglie.

Llama- 6.0: Provided one great pass over the top for Morimoto for the first real chance of the evening.

Substitutes

Izco-7.0: An inspired substitution by Mihajlovic, as he finished off the counter attack to win the match, while providing an outlet for his team-mates.

Plasmati- 6.5: Provided a textbook assist for the winner, leaving the defence stranded.

Bellusci- N/A
